New York City Trip to Plan for the Summer Program
We traveled to New York City at the end of May to plan for our Summer Program and to build a real team atmosphere with our staff here at the Peace Corner. We were only in NYC for a short weekend, but we traveled a great deal throughout the “Big Apple” and saw many things. Things went well and we went on a 3 hour boat tour of the city and saw so many places and area of interests; Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Ground Zero, Yankee Stadium, and many more. All in all, it was a great trip with so many sites left unseen, but we achieved our goal to prepare for our Summer Program and become a better Peace Corner team.

Mission Statement
“Rooted in the church's mission of peacemaking and reconciliation, and inspired by the vision and passion of Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, the Peacebuilders Initiative seeks to encourage and mentor youth to awaken their minds and hearts toward ministry within the church as a lifelong vocation.
In a culturally diverse urban setting, this integrated program of study, ministry, prayer, and reflection provides for a deepening and enriching of the faith of the participants, while offering them the opportunity to challenge each other to forge a vision of their future as Christians committed to serving the church and society.”
We had an amazing opportunity to work with this great organization and more importantly their amazing students, mentors, and administration. We got to know each other as people and began the process to break down cultural and social barriers and stereotypes to begin to truly learn about each other and become friends. We met so many wonderful students who took a tour of our neighborhood in Austin and saw the conditions that so many of our children are left to live in. More importantly, we broke down racial stereotypes in order to learn and befriend the human person that so many in our society look past. We would like to thank the great people that came to visit our humble center and see what we work to achieve everyday here at the Peace Corner. Thank you Bart, Art, Kate, Ariel, Dave, and Liz for such an amazing time and you are always welcome back as friends of the Peace Corner.
